Some ideas to make the most of your trip to Autumn Feast

We hope you will visit the exhibitor pages and enjoy reading about the produce to be sold at the event.  In order to make shopping easier on the day we are providing a 'shop and drop' facility, this means you don't have to carry around your purchases and you can enjoy the demonstrations and workshops free from 'baggage'.

You may wish to consider placing an order before the event, if you are looking for something in particular, be it an individual birthday gift from one of the craft stands, or a large joint of meat from a farmer or butcher, each exhibitor would be happy to take advance orders for collection on the day.

Look out for news of Feast Rewards coming soon....

The fabulous Pendle Jazzmen confirmed for Saturday 7th

We are delighted to confirm that the Pendle Jazzmen will be providing entertainment for the event on Saturday 7th October - they will play two sessions, 12 Noon and 2.00pm. This year the refreshment area will have more of a continental cafe feel with tables around a 'courtyard' surrounded by food and drink stalls and featuring the stage for entertainment and tutorials.

Relax with a beer, or a cup of tea, or shop to the sounds of live music, all bringing a Festival feel to this unique indoor venue.

To hear the jazzmen click the link and wait for the sounds!

FEAST REWARDS

[Saturday 30 September 2006]

SHOP AND SAVE!

Through listening to feedback from our visitors we have noted that not everyone is happy to pay an entry fee for such an event, from our point of view we could not hire a venue on this scale and provide cookery demonstrations and entertainment without the support of an entry fee.

However, Feast, and our exhibitors, are very keen to reward those visitors who come to shop! so we have developed Feast Rewards - wherever you see the Reward Symbol

You will receive a discount on your purchase - when you spend over £5.00 with an exhibitor displaying the symbol, you will receive 10% discount on your purchases - if you spend over £50.00 in total at the event you will have recouped your entry fee - that's only £4.50 if you booked in advance or £3.50 for concessions.

Feast have also contributed by giving Reward exhibitors a discount on their stand rental - so everyone shares the costs and benefits of Feast Rewards!

GROW IT... COOK IT... SESSIONS

[Monday 25 September 2006]

TAKE FARMERS AND CHEFS INTO SCHOOLS DURING BRITISH FOOD FORTNIGHT

British Food Fortnight comes to the classroom next week at 13 schools across Yorkshire and the Humber.  Local farmers and chefs will be visiting the schools to hold a special ‘Grow it Cook it’ session for children and their parents.
Now in its fifth year, British Food Fortnight runs between 23 September and 8 October. It aims to raise awareness of the diverse range of food and drink that Britain produces, increase awareness of the taste of fresh, seasonal, produce, increase the amount of food education in schools and advocate the pleasure in preparing and eating regional food and drink.
The 13 schools have been chosen to host the combined farmer and chef visits as a means of giving children a better understanding of how food is produced and then transformed into the meals we eat. The visits will include explanation of how food is produced and then a hands on cookery session.
Schools taking part in the ‘Grow it Cook it’ sessions include in West Yorkshire, St Josephs Catholic Primary School, Dewsbury and Shelley College Huddersfield.
In East Yorkshire and North East Lincs, Skirlaugh Primary School in Hull, St George’s Primary School, Hull, Scartho Infants’ School, Grimsby, and Leys Farm Primary School in Scunthorpe are all participating.
South Yorkshire schools are Shortbrook Primary School in Sheffield and Todwick Junior and Infants’ School, Rotherham.
Taking part in North Yorkshire are Kirby Hill Primary School, Boroughbridge, Masham Primary School near Ripon, Embsay Primary School near Skipton, Lindhead School in Scarborough and Tadcaster East Primary School.
Elizabeth Hudson from Framework for Change, which is just one of the organisations supporting British Food Fortnight says; “’Grow it Cook it’ is a great way to bring the countryside to the classroom and help children make the link between farm and the food that they eat!”
British Food Fortnight is organised in the region by a partnership body including the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, NFU, Countryside Agency, Women’s Food and Farming Union, FEAST.
Rebecca Roberts from FEAST says: “Our partnership has welcomed the Government’s recent announcement that an extra £240m is to be spent improving the quality of school meals, with an increasing emphasis on local food. Feast are currently working with a group of growers accross the Region to facilitate a bid to supply schools in the region with fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables.
Other activities planned across the region during British Food Fortnight include
Stockbridge Technology Centre open day on 24 September from 1pm to 4.30pm and Yorkshire Agricultural Society in conjunction with St Aidan’s School in Harrogate will be serving a British food lunch to 100 primary school children from New Park School on 27 September. Skipton Food Festival ‘Autumn FEAST’ is held on 7 and 8 October and the country’s oldest food festival York Festival of Food and Drink runs from 22 September to 1 October.
